Classic or Modern – Family or Friends – A Wonderful Christmas Show Awaits You
For family friendly fun, there are several shows ready to entertain you and your family and get everyone, even your family Scrooge, in the holiday spirit. The sensational Nutcracker Ballet is a holiday tradition you don’t want to miss! The festive ballet by composer Peter Tchaikovsky and choreographer Helgi Tomasson is sure to delight your family. See this holiday classic at the Civic Center through December 29, 2019.
At Davies Symphony Hall this Christmas is A Charlie Brown Christmas, December 21-23, 2019. With Snoopy, Charlie Brown, and all your favorite Peanuts’ characters, this classic promises enchanting fun for the entire family that also includes a holiday reception and Peanuts’ activities.
The American Conservatory Theatre brings another holiday favorite to life with the Dicken’s classic tale, A Christmas Carol through December 24, 2019. Young and old will enjoy Ebenezer Scrooge’s journey to discover the true meaning of the holidays.
For a completely unique “friends” experience consider trading in the classics for The Golden Girls Live! The Christmas Episodes – a hilarious Christmas parody of joy and the holidays brought to you by the “Golden Girls”—drag queens D’Arcy Drollinger, Heklina, Mathew Martin, and Holotta Tymes through December 22, 2019.
Distinctly San Francisco Holiday Events – Something for Everyone
Over at the Fairmont Hotel, a must see is the giant Gingerbread House. The edible two-story Victorian home stands more than 25 feet high and features more than 6,000 gingerbread bricks and nearly 1,700 pounds of candy and is on display through January 1, 2020.
The Second Annual Winter Park at the Civic Center is modeled after the famous Wiener Eistraum in Vienna and features an ice rink and track placed amid the trees of the plaza. Enjoy ice skating, curling lessons, and special events through January 5, 2020.
At Cow Palace, explore the Great Dickens Christmas Fair on weekends through December 22, 2019. A San Francisco Tradition, the event features Victorian shops, costumed performers, mead-chugging competitions, and roasted chestnuts.
Looking for a little irreverent Christmas fun? Check out the Kung Pao Kosher Comedy at the New Asia Restaurant. San Francisco’s longest running comedy showcases the Jewish solution to Christmas dinner, a Chinese restaurant. Enjoy the show, December 24-26, 2019, with your favorite Chinese food and cocktails.
For your Hanukah celebration this year, why not join in the fun at the Latke Ball 2019 on Christmas Eve. The annual event takes place at 1015 Folsom where you can dress up and dance the night away while enjoying an amazing latke buffet.
And last, but certainly not least, Unsilent Night, is a uniquely San Francisco caroling tradition. On December 14, 2019 at 7:30 p.m., this magical event begins as carolers, who have downloaded the selected holiday tracks, hit play on their mobile devices and join in the fun. The result is an enchanted mobile sound sculpture which parades through town. The brainchild this soundscape is artist Phil Kline.
